The Official Start of the 2024 Growing Season
The leaves shown in the picture represent the first of the buds to emerge and open from the Cabernet Franc vines to the west of the Tasting Room. The buds have been swelling for the last 3 to 4 weeks as the weather has gone through its spring ups and downs temperature-wise. While Cabernet Franc is the first to pop, other varieties such as Grenache, Malbec and Tempranillo are close behind. Notice also in the picture that the shoots have been purposely pruned long as a last measure of protection against a Spring Frost. The leaves that emerge first at the distal end of the shoot and will be pruned in the final pruning of the vines in about 2 to 3 weeks when the danger of frost is passed. then the permanent leaves emerge and the shoots begin their growth for the new season.
We have a lot of events planned this weekend including the talented husband and wife duo
J O N E S on TGIFriday, a UKE Clinic on Saturday conducted by Dani Joy and Perry Stauffer from Portland who are also hosts of the Reno UKE Festival. On Sunday we have scheduled a duo called PAINT who have a unique performance combining musical and visual arts.
We invite all to come in for tasting and then enjoy music & pizza!
