Scholer & Ragland

California blues musician Bill Scholer is bringing his thoughtful and heartfelt brand of the blues to Oregon. A member of the Sacramento Blues Hall Of Fame, Scholer now lives in Talent, Oregon after working in Japan for the past eight years. There he was described as – “without a doubt one of the most notable and creative blues guitarists and songwriters in Japan…” Previously in the states, Scholer and his band had opened shows for B.B. King, John Lee Hooker, Willie Dixon, James Cotton, J.J. Cale, Leon Redbone, The Ventures, Elvin Bishop, Paul Butterfield & Rick Danko (The Band), Charlie Musselwhite, Mighty Joe Young, Jeff Healy, Zero with Steve Kimock, Los Lobos, The Chambers Brothers, among others.

Bassist Todd Ragland is a native Oregonian. He studied jazz and classical music at Southern Oregon University. During this time, he played with Venezuelan artist Irene Ferrera and jazz guitarist Herb Ellis. Later, he settled in Tokyo where he worked as a bassist and composed soundtrack music. He played with The Steve Loza Latin Jazz Band and later with jazz guitarist Kenny Burrell. After returning to Portland, he played Afro-Beat/Afro-Cuban music with the Ubuntu Project and Zimbabwean music with Loveness Wesa and the Bantus. Currently, he lives in Ashland performing and composing music.

The pair will be playing a mix of standard and original Jazz and Blues numbers for your enjoyment.
